Hello everyone, welcome to my first review!
So the book that I have chosen for this is The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson
To give a bit of a background, The Kiss of Deception is the first book in the Remnant Chronicles series. The book is about a girl from a kingdom called Morrighan who runs away on her wedding day. But not before she steals these important documents from a man called the Chancellor. (which basically are super important throughout the book!) After she leaves, she ends up in a small village where she creates a new life for her. Little did she know, the man she was suppose to marry, the prince, was coming to find her. And so was an assassin. Unknowingly, she meets these men and thus begins a lovely love triangle.
Now, my feelings towards this book.
IT'S AMAZING.
I remember the first time I found this book, I was walking around the teen section of my local library with a friend of mine and I saw this sitting on the shelf, a nice little new sticker was along the spine. But it wasn't the sticker that drew me in. It was the cover. I love the way this cover looks and it drew me in very quickly to see what it was all about. After I read the summary, I was hooked. I checked it out and immediately started to read it. In a matter of days I was finished with the book and I couldn't wait for the next one!
Mary E. Pearson does such an amazing job on this book. She does a great balance of three first people's point of views, letting you get a peek into what the other characters are feeling and what they see through their eyes. She let's you know as each chapter goes which character will be next and until you reach a certain chapter, you only know the two main men as Prince and Assassin. About that certain chapter, let me tell you it's such a shock when you actually learn who is who. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, it becomes a huge plot twist that I really think made me love this book so much. She gives so much detail and makes the book just so hard to put down with so many twists that make you desperate to know what happens next.
The next book in the series is The Heart of Betrayal and the third and final book is The Beauty of Darkness. She also has a novella out as an e-book called Morrighan. She also has another two book series that is going to be set in the same land as the Remnant Chronicles called Dance of Thieves coming out next spring!
To finish off, just some of my favorite quotes from this book:
"Today was the day a thousand dreams would die, and a single dream would be born." -Mary E. Pearson, The Kiss of Deception
"I will find you. In the farthest corner, I will find you." -Mary E. Pearson, The Kiss of Deception
"Maybe there was no one way to define it. Maybe there were as many shades of love as the blues of the sky." -Mary E. Pearson, The Kiss of Deception
"Maybe there were a hundred different ways to fall in love." -Mary E. Pearson, The Kiss of Deception
