Hello everyone, here's my next book review! The book I have for you today is Princess of Thorns by Stacey Jay.
Rating: 5/5 stars
Background: This book is Sleeping Beauty with a twist. It's about a girl named Aurora, who is trying to raise an army to save her brother Jor, who is being held prisoner by an Orge Queen named Ekeeta. When her mother dies, she receives fairy magic which ends up being more of a curse than help. As she's trying to raise an army, she meets a boy named Niklaas. He's got a curse of his own and is on a search to find Aurora to marry her to stop his curse. Which he's found but doesn't realize it because she passes off as being her little brother, being dressed as a boy.
Now for my feelings:
This book is a whole mess of feels. Good feels.
The sass, the teasing, the fighting, everything in this book just was amazing. I wasn't really sure at first how I was gonna feel about this book but I instantly knew as I got further in, that I had made the right choice. I loved the connection between Niklaas and Aurora, it really felt like they had cared for each other even after all the stuff they had to go through. It got a little rocky towards the end and I was getting very upset that there was a chance it wasn't going to go how I thought.
Then there was the bad guy. I had such hateful feelings towards all of the bad guys in this story, they weren't the typical bad guys you see in movies. At first. The sudden plot twist had my feels be like they were on a roller coaster. The whole book had me feeling like I was on the edge of my feet. Although some characters I had wished I got to spend a bit more time with in the book, I would've loved to have gotten to know them a little better.
Overall, I really do recommend this book, even if you're not a huge fan of sleeping beauty, because this just gives that vibe but with a completely different story line.
Some of my favorite quotes from the book:
“I'll be a girl...pretending to be a boy...pretending to be a girl. The thought alone is enough to make me dizzy.” -Stacey Jay, Princess of Thorns
“My first thought is to tell him to take his "help" and shove it so far between his [butt] cheeks he'll waddle down the road—I stopped speaking like a princess the day I began training as a warrior—but I bite my lip.” -Stacey Jay, Princess of Thorns
“I never get drunk. Never. Iss the beer's fault. I'm strong, but the beer must be sssssstrooooooong.-Niklass” -Stacey Jay, Princess of Thorns
“I am only a child, too innocent to realize that there is no salvation without darkness, no triumph that doesn't carry the seeds of its own destruction bouncing in its pocket.” -Stacey Jay, Princess of Thorns
